A Long Journey
Our Story
This story starts with a 5 year old boy in Hong Kong, recently introduced to mini-hockey at Kai Tak Hockey Club as a tag-a-long to his older sister’s weekend activity. He learned to love the game, the chase, the energy and putting that little white ball in into a backboard and jumping in the air in elation.
Moving to England as a 10 year old, this little boy found himself at the epicenter of the sport in the country finding himself at a school that prided itself on it’s stellar hockey teams. With immediate impact in his first year at a new school Woburn Hill was crowned U11 National Mini Hockey Champions and the bug was firmly established in the boy.
Despite being a versatile sportsman it was hockey that quickly rose to the fore and multiple country, regional and National Championships ensued as well as invitations to representative hockey including his first taste of International hockey at the age of 14. At the same time, invitations to train with Premier League clubs started and “The Boy” aptly nicknamed by his much older new teammates made his debut for Teddington HC’s Premier League team at the age of 15. By this time, he was amassing caps with the Junior National Teams (u16 & u18) and recognition, ultimately representing the U21 Junior National Team at the age of 15 and accumlating 101 Caps and competing at the Junior World Cup in Milton Keynes in 1997.
‘Boy’ had firmly established himself in English hockey, winning a gold medal at the Youth Olympics in 1996, Captaining the England U21 team to a silver medal at the European Cup in 1998 and winning the first of 26 Senior Team Caps in 2001. Further afield, Danny became the first European player to play in the Indian Hockey League and the Malaysian Hockey League with seasons spent in both countries soaking up the culture and playing styles.
The Boy was now a man, but to his friends and teammates he was still “BOY”. Narrowly missing Olympic Team selection for Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, Danny decided to pursue his career and moved to the USA in 2006 to work in finane in New York whilst establishing New York City Field Hockey Club in 2008.
Along the way, an entrepreneurial streak and the accumulared knowledge of 40 years in the game Danny has developed his BOY and GIRL range of sticks with 12 years of personal development. The brand is an extension of his playing style and his commitment to the game – fearless, dynamic and with a splash of flamboyance. He hopes you will share in the appreciation of these carefully crafted tools and enhoy the game as much as he has!
BOY & GIRL Field Hockey was born from a simple frustration: the game we loved at the highest level didn’t always feel like the game we experienced around the world.
As international players, we’ve played everywhere – from elite stadiums to coastal pitches, from structured systems to free-flowing, expressive hockey shaped by culture, environment, and energy. Along the way, we saw a gap. Equipment was either highly technical but soulless, or expressive but lacking true performance credibility. Rarely both.
So we set out to build something different.
BOY & GIRL is a performance-first brand, engineered with the precision and rigor demanded at the international level – advanced carbon construction, meticulous balance, and obsessive attention to detail. But it’s also shaped by movement beyond the pitch: surf culture, travel, light, texture, and the rhythm of places that influence how the game is played and felt.
The name reflects dual design philosophies, not limitations. Each line is carefully tuned for different styles of play – subtle differences in feel, balance, and responsiveness, but every stick is built for anyone who connects with it. This is not about gender. It’s about expression, preference, and performance.
